Fortescue Ltd (formerly Fortescue Metals Group) is an Australian iron ore mining company and one of the world's largest iron ore producers. It mines and ships iron ore from Western Australia's Pilbara region and is increasingly investing in green energy and decarbonisation.
Fortescue was founded in 2003 by Andrew Forrest, who took over and renamed Allied Mining and Processing, and made its first iron ore shipment to China in 2008. Headquartered in Perth, it operates large-scale mining, rail and port infrastructure in the Pilbara and ranks among the world's biggest iron ore producers, moving close to 200 million tonnes annually. Under its 'Real Zero' strategy, Fortescue is developing large-scale renewable-energy infrastructure and green-metal projects aimed at eliminating fossil-fuel emissions from its operations. It is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
